Jeff, a little respect for history please. This is not just another piazza and cathedral in Rome, the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere is assumed to be the oldest church in Rome, perhaps the very spot where the first Mass was openly celebrated. The basic floor plan and wall structure of the church date back to the 340s. The first sanctuary was built on this spot in 221 and 227 by Pope Callixtus I.

Thank you for the information. I meant that it was yet another amazing cathedral, but I did not know how important the history was. Rome has so much history it is totally overwhelming at times.

      Thanks again, Sam.
