After day one I didn’t know if I’d like Delhi, but then I realized the following: Delhi is one big carnival. The street is full of food vendors, sales people, con artists, beggars, stray dogs, random cows, oxen pulling stuff, henna artists, colorful religious parades, street kids, businessmen, and women in impossibly bright clothes. Noises of honking horns, shouting children, vendors hawking their goods, motorbike engines, and more honking plus the smells of curry and urine and fried food goodness converge to create a scene that blows the mind and assaults the senses.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Delhi and I’m a little sad to move one.
I took the following photos this evening, all within a few blocks of our Pahar Ganj district hotel, and all in one sitting. I know that they in no way can capture the chaos of the street, the anarchic traffic and the crush of people, but it is the best I can do.
