The Planet Bell World Headquarters are Moving

World Map

I have an announcement to make: The world headquarters of the Planet Bell Blog are moving to…

wait for it…

…Thailand!

My wife got a job at an international school in Bangkok and has been nice enough to take me with her. If I needed more proof that I married the right person, this is it.

We’ve spent some time in Thailand this year getting moved over we’ll still be spending this summer in Alaska, but after that we’ll be in Southeast Asia for a while.

Anyway, I just thought I’d share this with my tens of thousands of loyal followers so that you aren’t confused when I start posting photos of monks instead of whales, temples instead of glaciers and start sharing expat stories instead of bear spray stories.

If you are ever passing through Thailand drop me a line. We can meet on Khao San road, eat scorpions and drink a Chang beer, because that is what you do in Bangkok, right?

  1. CONGRATULATIONS Jeff and Kristi! That will be awesome and I am very happy for both of you. I will look forward to all your great experiences – IF you remember to post them!

  2. That’s awesome, congrats!!! I’m going to miss the bear spray stories, but I’m sure you will have plenty of new adventures to share.

  3. Congratulations! That sounds like a great adventure!! Looking forward to hearing about the temples and monks, etc. We’ll be in Alaska this summer, too, but on the coast, sailing back to SE AK from the Aleutians – lots of glaciers and bears in store!

      • Unfortunately, no, but not because of permits – we were trying to fit in too much and decided to spend our time in Prince William Sound and the Alaska Peninsula instead. We got a perfect weather window to cross the Gulf and couldn’t pass it up. So Glacier Bay is still on the must-see list!

  4. wow – you will surely have fun and even more to post about it – looking forward to following this journey with y’all 🙂

  5. Does your wife have a sister that also works in Thailand? I guess we’ll be getting elephant-spray stories, and scorpion-spray stories, and cockroach-eating stories? I wondered where you’d gotten to in the last couple weeks (or did I just not see your posts while I was gone?).

    • No sister, but she works with a lot of cute women. I already do in fact have a cockroach spray story. It might only be funny to me, but I”ll post it soon.

      • they used to say Thai women were the prettiest in the world…I think it’s Singapore women–they have all the same qualities as Thai, only they are healthier, well fed

      • I guess it depends on preference. I like American blondes, obviously since I married one. These girls might be too nice for me though, they probably aren’t sassy enough. 🙂

  6. Congrats! But why meet at Khao San Road? Too many backpackers! 🙂 And if you and Kristi decide to come over to KL for a weekend getaway, let me know, would love to catch up. Cheers!

    • We’ll meet up somewhere better than Khao San when you visit. I’m sure we will be in KL sometime and we’ll look you up!

  7. That is so cool! Congratulations 🙂 A new life adventure in a new city – does it get any better? 🙂

All of it sounds wonderful – well, except for the scorpions. I think I’ll pass, thanks.

  8. Welcome to ‘this side of the world’! Now you have all those cheap and ‘exotic’ destinations in your backyard. Enjoy! 🙂

    • I know. Going back to America will feel exotic after a while! I’m sure we’ll be passing through Jakarta or you’ll be coming through Bangkok at some point so hopefully we can meet up.

      • The question is not whether we will meet up or not, but when. I definitely want to go back to Thailand as I have yet to explore its archaeological sites, particularly Ayutthaya and Sukhothai. But if you get to Jakarta sooner than I do to Bangkok, do let me know.

      • You’d enjoy Ayutthaya. We made a weekend trip up there. Agreed, not if but when. We’ll be in touch. I’m headed back to AK next week but I’ll return late Sept.

  9. Jeff and Kristi,That is SO cool! Did I say cool? We love Bangkok and we’re tres envious. Can’t wait to hear more about it. ~Terri

    • Thank you Terri. We are enjoying it too. Living as an expat is a lot different than being a tourist as you know. It is neat to see a different side of the country.

  10. Thailand is one of the gaping holes in my travel roster, so it is on my short list for upcoming trips. I will drink a beer on any road, so I’ll let you know when I’m there! 🙂 Oh, and best wishes for a safe move after the summer; it sounds like a wonderful adventure!

  11. What an exciting adventure for you! Look forward to reading all about this new chapter!

  12. Jeff that is SO exciting! Congratulations. We definitely have Thailand high on the list so be assured you will hear from us. Wishing you a good summer and looking forward to following the move!

  13. Wow wow how fabulous! And what a huge change! We will definitely visit you if we’re in that part of the world. Safe travels,
    Alison

  14. Great place to experience the expat life..congratulations! I loved Bangkok, but my favourite was Chiang Mai, although I could happily live for some time anywhere in Thailand. Enjoy it, I am looking forward to all the expat stories.

  15. Wow the adventure continues. Enjoy. So if your world headquarters are moving, are you still keeping some national ones?

    • I think for now I’ll keep a branch in Alaska and Oklahoma. Maybe I’ll open up a few more after I win the lottery.

  16. Wow. What an adventure Jeff! I’ll make sure to let you know when we arrive in Thailand 🙂 We’re moving our “Headquarters” (haha) from Central Europe to Texas in late summer. Can’t wait to be that close to South America 🙂
Though, I am going to miss the glaciers and the Alaska wildlife photos a lot! 😉

    • Wow, Texas. I hope it is Austin for your sake 🙂 There is actually a lot down there, from Big Bend national park over to New Orleans. Enjoy!

  17. Congratulations, Jeff! I remember you guys mentioned the idea of living in Asia after visiting friends in Bangkok – and now you’re actually here! Have a great trip and enjoy your summer back in Glacier Bay. I’m sure we will catch up over a beer somewhere when you return. 🙂

    • Agreed. We will be in the same region of the world in airport hubs. I’m sure we will meet again for more speed walking.

  18. Ahhh Thai food!! Thai temples and Thai massage! Lucky you. Enjoy and best of luck. Hope to be back in Thailand soon!

    • Thai food and massages, two things I don’t think I’d get tired of. If you pass through Bangkok hit me up.

      • Ha ha! Yes sometimes those Thai massages can be too um intense! It’s all about finding the right intensity from the right provider. Or consider a foot reflexology instead of full body. 😝

  19. That is so cool, Jeff! Congratulations to you both! My husband and I are both teachers, so tell Kristi to let me know if her school has any openings. 🙂 We both dream of teaching abroad someday, and, if Trump gets elected, that day just might need to arrive sooner than later! What are you doing while Kristi is working?

    • She is working at the Ruamrudee International School. If you have a couple of years of experience, you should have no trouble finding a job at an international school somewhere. Bangkok has dozens of them.

For the first months we were in Bangkok I didn’t do anything! It was great. But I’m back in AK for the summer before returning to Thailand in September. I’ll probably substitute teach and coach or something.
